This unique refreshing drink made from raw green mangoes, with its sweet, tangy flavour keeps you cool and hydrated and is a welcome treat in summer.
Ingredients
- 3 green mangoes (avoid the fibrous variety)
- 5-6 mint leaves
- 1 tsp cardamom powder
- Sugar
- Salt to taste
- Water
Instructions
- Wash the green mangoes well, and boil them in a pan with water till they are soft and pulpy. (You can also use the pressure cooker to cook the mangoes.)
- Once cooked remove the mangoes, but don’t throw away the water. Strain, and keep it aside.
- Let the cooked mangoes cool down, and peel of the skin. Scoop out all the pulp. Scrape the seed to remove any pulp stuck to it.
- Prepare a sugar syrup in water. (Variate on the quantity of sugar depending on your taste. The ratio of 1:2 cups of pulp to sugar is generally used.)
- Mix the sugar syrup with the mango pulp.
- Add the mint leaves, salt and cardamom powder.
- Whisk it in a blender to a smooth paste.
- For more flavour you can add the water in which the mangoes were boiled.
- Place it in the refrigerator.
- Serve chilled with a couple of ice cubes and garnished with a couple of leaves of mint.
Note: You can make it as a concentrate and store it for future use. For a healthy drink use jaggery instead of sugar.
